DISH Pumps "Significantly Viewed"
The debate continues over "significantly viewed" stations with DISH filing comments applauding the FCC's proposals but saying they don't go far enough. More specifically, the DBS provider asks that broadcasters be prohibited from pegging retransmission consent for local-into-local HD service to restrictions on carriage of significantly viewed stations. Plus, the DISHites want subscribers who live in counties where the Nielsen DMA boundaries decree that their "local" stations are located in another state to be allowed to receive stations from the state in which they live. (Judging by the mail received by SkyREPORT, that latter provision could cause an outbreak of hosannas in "orphan" counties across the nation.)
