Brussels allows the acquisition of NBC Universal by Comcast

The European Commission has approved the acquisition of U.S. company NBC Universal entertainment and communication by its rival Comcast after finding that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the EU market.
The purchase will lead to overlaps between the activities of Comcast, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, film producer, in which Comcast has an interest, and NBC Universal in several markets. Among them, the sale of television programs or general pay-TV channels, the sale of online advertising, film production and sale of entertainment content.
However, the EU executive's research showed that the combined market share of the parties is very limited in all Member States where both companies are present and that this operation will involve only minimal growth of this market share.
Moreover, unlike what happens in the U.S., the EU operation will not generate any vertical relationship between the distribution platform Comcast cable networks and activities conducted by NBC Universal in the software industry.
