Vidyo targets satellite with new broadcast business unit
After making a splash in the corporate online video transport market, Vidyo has set its sights on the broadcast industry with a new dedicated business unit with its own general manager.
Jim O’Brien will head up the new business unit which says that will aim to provide a line of cost-effective, easy-to-connect products and services for broadcast transmission and contribution.
The solutions, asserts Vidyo, will encompass high-quality low latency SD/HD video encoding and transport at one-tenth the cost of satellite.
The company says it the first to deliver personal telepresence and further claimed in June 2010 it set a new benchmark in videoconferencing with the first system to attain 1440p (decode) in an HD multiparty video conference via general purpose IP networks.
Explaining the forward strategy of the company, Ofer Shapiro, co-founder and CEO of Vidyo said: “As broadcasters are under increased pressure to deliver news, sports and entertainment around the clock, they are looking for less expensive and more versatile solutions than what has been available until now. Vidyo is forging a new category of products and services that achieve a level of functionality that provide broadcasters with more flexibility and creativity with their productions. Jim O’Brien’s experience, knowledge and networks in broadcasting and technology will work well to position VidyoCast as a formidable new entry in this arena.”
